Welcome to the Organic Baby Mattress site

Congratulations! You, or someone you know, has a baby on the way & you are paying for the mattress.  The GOOD NEWS… by looking into the purchase of an organic mattress you are showing concern for ‘your’ baby’s health, as well global concerns of a healthy Earth.  The BAD NEWS… making the organic choice isn’t always the easiest, because it cost’s more!

Do you want a super inexpensive crib mattress, i’ve seen them online for as little as $29 (plus shipping).  Speaking of price, there are “organic” products… that are cheaper than the one we are recommending for your infant, but notice that i spelled organic in quotation marks.  The term “organic”, when related to organic bedding, seems to mean that the product in question contains organic materials that make up 10%-70% the whole product.  Here’s an “organic” mattress {Sealy Posturepedic Springfree Soybean & Latex Foam-Core Crib Mattress} that is $259 & does not have an organic cover, but a vinyl cover & one layer only of natural latex and an organic covering (ticking)… Yay, just a little bit less crude oil in the making of this product.  Let a true ‘tree-hugger’ read about how this “organic” product was made an they would be half-way to grab their chains & padlock.

The baby (crib) mattress we recommend is made from 100% organic material (grown in Texas) and refined, manufactured, assembled, and sold & shipped in the U.S.A.  Hard to believe… but true.

And why are NO (and seriously NO chemicals) chemicals in this product?  Just about every mattress made has to have some chemicals to pass the FDA’s fireburn safety test! This mattress uses 100% Pure Grow Wool that naturally retards fire… here’s a link to the actual fireburn test.  I can’t stress enough how much i believe in this product.

There are five major parts most organic mattresses: 1.) The Springs, 2.) Sleepshield, 3.) plush layer, 4.) quilted covering, and 5.) comfort:

#1.) The number of springs make up the coil count and size of wire dictate the firmness of the mattress.

#2.) The sleep-shield is like the foundation of your home, it holds up the layers of the pure grow wool and organic cotton from working their way into the inner spring.

#3.) The Plush layer is a layer of felted organic cotton that helps the mattress last longer and let your baby sleep in comfort.

#4.) The Quilted Cover layer is made up of 4 parts (Ticking, Pure Grow Wool, and Felted Cotton Fabric), 100% organic cotton ticking quilted to 100 percent pure grow wool and Organic Cotton. The Ticking & Fabric are exactly the same… the “ticking” is just fabric facing the outside world (i was surprised when i found this out).

#5.) Comfort:  I have read that some parents have 2nd thoughts about purchasing a “firm” mattress because infants sleep better on “softer bedding”.  The 280 coil count crib mattress we suggest is “firm”.  After my experience with my 4 children, I put for the thought that it is not the firmness of the mattress, but the heat of the baby that seems to cause the restless sleep.  (After holding a baby for just as little while, one notices that they are just little incubators… radiating heat!)  The 100% Pure Grow Wool wisks the uncomfortable heat away from your baby and provides sleep in a more nurturing comfortable safer environment. Many of the crib mattresses available to the general public have vinyl or polyester covers that make them easy to clean, but are just like wrapping a baby in tin foil… heating up your baby (sweaty baby) and contributing to a restless sleep.  And what we (all parents) truly wish is for our infants to sleep all night through (out of our beds), and if possible doing it without getting their first taste of chemicals.
